Ocean talents¶
The Ocean archetype is naval combat. Its talents only take effect at sea — that is, while you are standing on a boat (the Ocean talent zone is "aboard a ship"). They scale your ship, not your character: cannons, hull, repairs, speed, and your crew.
You earn Ocean talent points by sinking ships (see Naval Combat). Spend them from the talent panel's Ocean section, which has two columns: Broadside (offensive) and Bulwark of the Deep (defensive).
Every Ocean bonus folds into the same ship-stat system your crew and upgrade deeds feed, so it stacks cleanly with a good crew and good upgrade rolls.
Broadside (offensive)¶

Active abilities¶
Three Ocean talents are abilities you fire, not passive bonuses — they go on your talent hotbar like any other active, and only work while you're the captain at the helm:
- Broadside Barrage (
[broadsidebarrage, T5 Broadside) — target a tile, fire a rapid 4-shot burst out the single side that bears on it. Ignores the cannon reload cooldown (fire it even while the guns are reloading). 120s cooldown. - Emergency Repair (
[emergencyrepair, T4A Bulwark) — instant +25% max-hull patch. 60s cooldown. - Brace for Impact (
[braceforimpact, T5 Bulwark) — 15s incoming-hull-damage cut + full crew heal. 120s cooldown.
The rest of the tree (Heavy Shot, Rapid Reload, Long Guns, Full Sail, Powder Charges, Reinforced Hull, Master Carpenter, Ghost Sails, Iron Plating) stays passive — those bonuses are always on while you're aboard.
At sea only
Ocean talents apply while you are aboard a ship. Step onto land (or throw yourself overboard) and the bonuses switch off until you are back at the helm. The three abilities additionally require you to be the ship's captain (the one authorized to drive it).
